Disney Dream - Newest Disney Cruise Line Ship - Celebrates its Keel Laying
In order to expand to many more itinerary options all across the globe, the Disney Cruise Line is expanding its fleet with two newly designed ships. The first of those two ships, Disney Dream, is celebrating its keel laying.

The Disney Dream’s keel laying ceremony took place in Papenburg, Germany. The new ship will continue its construction process at the Meyer Werft Shipyard. The keel laying ceremony commences when the first piece of a ship is lowered into the building dock. A lucky coin was put under the keel of the Disney Dream for good fortune.
The Disney Dream will emerge from construction in 2011, and its sister ship, the Disney Fantasy will set sail in 2012. The new ships have a tonnage of 128,000 tons and each sports 1250 staterooms. Their capacity will more than double Disney Cruise Line’s current capacity.
Between the best shipbuilders at the Meyer Werft shipyard, and the creative minds at Disney, the Disney Dream is a truly distinctive ship. The new ship has the latest in shipbuilding designs mixed in with the magical storytelling of Disney.
While design details have yet to be released, the two new Disney ships will deliver unique vacations that every family member believes was created just for them. With spaces for kids, venues for families, and secluded spots only for adults, the Disney ships have something for everyone.
The two new ships will homeport in Port Canaveral, FL, where the Disney Magic and Disney Wonder currently reside. The new ships will bring considerable increases to both capacity and size of the Disney fleet. Because of these increases, expansion efforts have already begun.
In addition to an extension of the dock and making the terminal bigger, a new multi-level parking structure will also be built. These new designs will add to the story-telling nature of the new ships, and will provide a seamless transition from land to sea for all cruisers.
The Disney Dream and Disney Fantasy are nearing completion. Stay tuned for more updates about these beautiful new ships.
