Gay Hot Spots to Travel in Mexico
What comes to mind when you hear Mexico? You probably think of traditional Catholic values and a culture which places a premium on machismo. However, Mexico is a modern society and just like in the US and homosexuality is widely accepted.
Mexico City and the state of Coahuila already provide civil unions to same sex couples, while the states of Jalisco, Colima, Guerrero, Veracruz, Puebla and Michoacan are close to doing the same.
Despite the impression people have of Mexico as a conservative and religious nation, in some regards it leads its neighbors. However, many Mexican gays and lesbians are not out about their sexuality. Even though homosexuality is largely accepted in Mexico, a lot of gays and lesbians in Mexico would rather not proclaim their sexual preferences to the world.

Mexico offers a lot of wonderful places for gay tourists to visit. The following cities are the top gay travel destinations in the country.
Cancun. Cancun has pulled ahead of Acapulco and Puerto Vallarta to become the top destination for gay tourists. Cancun is best known as a popular place for college students on spring break, but is a popular destination for gay and lesbian tourists year round.
Situated in the Yucatan Peninsula state of Quintana Roo, the city has a subtropical climate with average temperatures averaging between 81 and 95 degrees. Downtown Cancun is home to a lot of gay nightlife and is located only fifteen minutes from the Hotel Zone.
There is the Karamba, this place is popular for a mix, young international crowd for the last thirty years. There’s also the Picante, the crowd that this place is popular for is, straights, gays, drag queens, transvestites.
Villas Tacul is Cancun’s gay-oriented beach, but the Playa Delfines is more popular, being the city’s largest beach. Most of Cancun’s more than 100 hotels are gay friendly, so there’s always a great place to stay.
Mexico City. As Mexico’s largest city (and in fact, Mexico City is even larger than New York City), Mexico City has a large gay and lesbian community and has even legalized same sex civil unions. Mexico City offers a lot of gay nightlife and culture, with many gay clubs, including a few dozen in the Zona Rosa alone. There are gay theater groups and an annual Gay Pride Parade.
Guadalajara. The second largest Mexican city also has a large homosexual population, including a large lesbian community. The city has a gay cultural center and a widely popular gay radio show. Guadalajara has really large population of lesbians. For entertainment there are gay bars, and about two dozen gay clubs located mostly in the Zona Rosa. And then there is the Annual Gay Pride Parade.
There are many gay bars and clubs in Guadalajara as well, with the electronica club Angel’s Bar and the Latin disco oriented Monica’s Disco being particularly popular with tourists. You can find others by looking in the La Guia Rosa and Zona Gay.
