This city was built around the time of 700AD, even though some believe that people lived there from approximately 800BC, which would be almost one thousand years before Uxmal was officially built.

Many people wonder why there wasn’t a real settlement in this area earlier. Well, according to research no water was available in Uxmal, which is probably the reason this was the case.

There are many great reasons to take the time to visit Uxmal. All the attractions available are some of the main reasons. At 120 feet tall, you’ll want to check out the Magicians Pyramid, which is far taller than any other buildings in the entire city. Enjoy getting to the top for the great view of Uxmal, and some great photos from up there.

Another great place to check out is the Nun’s Quadrangle. This at one time was used for the military in the area. Check out the Governor’s Palace as well, which is another exciting attraction you’ll want to see.

In order to use a tripod for taking pictures in the area, you will have to have a permit, and if you want to use a video camera to capture these amazing sites and moments to take home, you have to pay a small fee.

When you go to the area, for comfort you’ll want to make sure that you choose clothing that is proper. Make sure that you go with shoes that are comfortable for doing a lot of walking, and they should be non slip so you can climb as well. Usually you will want to dress in light clothing because the weather is humid and quite hot as well.

If you want to visit other great sites in the area, check out the caves of Sayil, Kabah, Labna, Xlapak, and Grutas de Lotun. The Archaeological spot of Mayapan is another excellent spot to check out too.

Since the weather is so hot, you’ll want to dress in light clothing and have sun screen with you. To avoid sunburn wearing a good hat is a great idea too. The warm weather does make it a great place for being active. Pouring rain wouldn’t make it very fun for you.
