Getting Water Skiing Ropes
Buying the right gear for a sport is very important. It is important to understand the qualities that a water skier needs to look out while buying a ski rope. There are different types of water ski ropes used for different varieties of the sport. A professional rider will also look for other features like durability, quality standards which an amateur rider may not focus on. Another factor to consider would be your skill level and the variants of the sport you would be interested in playing.
Some characteristics to look out for in water ski ropes
Material elasticity: Elasticity is an important feature to look out for in any water ski rope. This is a very important feature for water ski ropes as taut ropes will put you at a disadvantage while taking sharp turns as you follow the boat’s route in the waters. Stretch and flexibility is especially essential while slalom skiing. Major reason being, that the stretch factor plays a key role in maintaining balance while jumping wakes.
Rope Length: Generally most ski ropes measure around 70 feet of rope length and around 5 feet towards the rope handle giving it a total length of 75 feet. Unique styles of water skiing will necessitate varying lengths. Almost all these ropes are multi colored, segmenting the different positions where the rope can be shortened to accommodate the current version of the game. The adjustable length feature enables you to master slalom skiing at different distances behind the boat. Most trick skiers need around 50 feet of rope only. It is therefore important to ensure that the water ski rope purchased provides you the flexibility to choose the length required for the different versions of the game. Though there are around 10 length options only 5 different length measures are generally used by the lay user.
Handle: Depending on the variant of the sport you are playing, the requirement of the handle will also differ. Most common handles are made of aluminum encased in rubber. A trick skier’s handle should have a foot stirrup for toe tricks. A jump skier will need rope handles that are narrower and longer than the normal ones. Choice of handles are also dictated by hollow ones that sink which is the standard feature sought by professionals as against handles that float which most amateur players prefer.
