Yachts have been used by the Dutch army even in the olden days. These light and agile water vessels were used to chase off the pirates. Today they are used for luxury and recreation.

The prices of the yacht depend on their size and the kind of work required out of them. Their length starts from a little under 5 meters and goes over 100 meters. The larger yachts can be as big as 150 metres.

Till the mid twentieth century the yachts were made of wood or steel mainly. Lately, fibreglass is being used for mass production. Today we can find wood based yachts in the possession of hobbyists and collectors who see yachts as work of art.

Yachts can be categorized as sail yachts and the motor yachts. Sail yachts are green and economical. They can be further subcategorised as: the day sailing yachts, the weekender yachts, the cruising yachts, the racing yachts and the luxury yachts.

The day sailing yachts are small because they have no cabins and cannot be used for more than one or two hours. The weekender yachts are slightly bigger than day sailing because they have a small cabin and can be used to undertake a journey that can last 2 or 3 days. The cruising yachts are much bigger and therefore more complex, having many cabins below the deck.

The racing yachts are unbelievable light and so can go up to 35 knots. Their sail area is large due to a huge mast. On the other hand, the luxury yachts can have anything from a TV to an air-conditioning system is on board.

Motor Yachts have almost the same categories. The day cruiser yachts are without any cabin whereas the weekend cruiser yacht may have more than one cabins. The cruising yachts have enough facilities to last for many days.

Sport fishing yacht are specialised because they come with the entire fishing equipment one needs. Last but not the least the luxury yachts have many other facilities too. The motor boats are expensive on the other hand.
